Small Group Life
At the Reseda boulevard Church of Christ, our small
group mission is to connect people relationally in small groups
of six to twelve people for the purpose of growing in Christ likeness,
loving one another, and producing fully functional and devoted
followers of Christ. We are committed to help everyone find a
small group where they can connect to God, to one another and
to the Reseda congregation so that Christ's redemptive purposes
are accomplished in the world.
If you would like to get
connected relationally to a small group meeting near you or
within your community, review the weekly
schedule of small group meetings to locate a group meeting
nearest to you or one with which you would prefer to connect.
A Diversity of Small Groups: there
are a number of group types from which to choose. Small groups
are identified by a defining characeristic. Some groups may be
identified as follows:
Small Groups - Groups often meet together according
to the region, city or town where the members live as describes
as . Consider joining a small group of people who live near
you. Neighborhood small groups are a great way to build relationships
while encouraging one another on your spiritual journeys.
Interest Small Groups - Groups often meet together
according to shared affinities, such as gender, marital stage,
activities, hobbies, work, areas of service, or major life events.
Small Groups - Some youth prefer to meet with
their peers. The youth small groups are gender specific and
are led by spiriutally mature adult leaders who are spiritually
gifted in facilitating ministry among youth.
Family Groups - Most of the family groups are
Intergenerational Small Groups that minister to the total family.
These groups provide for a Kid's Slot in which one of the group
members facilitate ministry to the children.
Support Groups - Groups often meet together according
to a desired group emphasis. Some groups emphasize study in
their inception as a group, some emphasize service, others emphasize
relationships as support groups.
Defining Characteristics of a Small Group
- We define a small group as a group of people who meet regularly
to intentionally pursue full devotion to Christ and are served
by a leader who can help them achieve their purpose. The following
are descriptive of our Small Groups:
Nurture Groups - small groups
may be described as nurture groups inasmuch as they are structured
to provide the necessary elements for members to become fully
functional and devoted followers of Christ.
Holistic Groups - most small
groups may be described as holistic ministry groups in which
all four purposes of the church are fulfilled. Groups are challenged
to fulfill the four purposes of the church - gaining souls through
ever-expanding relationships, grounding saints in practices
of love, growing servants to lead through mentoring apprentices
and multiplying groups, and glorifying the savior in all aspects
of life. These four components exist in most small groups.
Life Groups - small groups may
be described as life groups inasmuch as all aspects of congregational
life and ministry are group based. Group members are charged
to facilitate Love, Involvement, Fellowship, and Evangelism.
Small Groups: Community with a Cause
Small groups provide the optimal place for...
- Transformation - "Whoever claims to live
in Him must walk as Jesus did." 1 John 2:6
...growing in mutual accountability, in mutual
submission and in the application of scriptural truth, so
that seekers and believers become more like Jesus in attitude
- Community -
"Think of ways to encourage one another to outbursts of love
and good deeds. And let us not neglect our meeting together,
as some people do, but encourage and warn each other, especially
now that the day of his coming back is drawing near." Hebrews
...creating an environment characterized by
authenticity and transparency so that seekers and believers
enter into relationships where they are known, loved, accepted,
- Compassion - "Praise be to the God and
Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and
the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles,
so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort
we ourselves have received from God." 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
...encouraging group members to grow in love for others
so that seekers and believers embrace and serve people in
and beyond their small group.
The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord
of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest
field. Matthew 9:37-38
...building a community with a kingdom perspective
so that each small group member actively pursues relationships
with lost people and considers God's calling to group leadership.
